[the best dog there ever was]

[our precious brigham, 2 months old]

This post is dedicated to Brigham, our little cheese loving, car chasing, pool swimming, tail wagging girl. She brought so much happiness and joy to our lives. If you were having a so-so day, all it took was one of Brigham’s “hugs” to make you feel instantly better. Her version of a hug: she’d wiggle her brown butt in between your legs and just stand there, with you sort of straddling her while she stood there, tail wagging back and forth maniacally. It’s something she’d been doing since she was a puppy, we have no idea how she started doing this but it always made us laugh. That was a common theme with our Briggie.

There will never be another Brigham, she was the best dog there ever was. I know she has a very special spot in Heaven, surrounded by wheels of cheese and big pieces of cake. We love you Briggie!

 The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this — the last battle — can’t be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don’t let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn’t want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they’ll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don’t grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We’ve been so close — we two — these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

    1. thank you so much dr. rutman, you gave my family such peace of mind when brigham was in your care, and that in itself is absolutely priceless. your words now are comforting and so true – she is at peace. we’ll see her again one day!
